Women's Tennis Takes on Delaware, Villanova at the Drexel Invitational

PHILADELPHIA – The women's tennis team performed well on Saturday as the Dragons hosted the Drexel Dragons Invitational at the Vidas Courts. Drexel took on Delaware and Villanova, winning seven of 12 overall matches in singles and doubles play.
The first matchup of the day pitted Colonial Athletic Association rivals Drexel and Delaware against each other. Drexel dominated singles play, winning all four matches held. Salma Ziouti played at the top of the Dragons' ladder, winning 6-2, 6-1 over Sarah Hall. Kendra Bunch knocked out Amanda Studnicki, 6-3, 3-6, 10-7. Ghita Benhadi handled Draga Sabotic 3-6, 7-5, 10-6, and Clary Rodriguez Cruz topped Arielle Shuren 2-6, 6-1, 10-4.
In the second matchup of the day for the Dragons, Drexel's doubles pairings came to life with a pair of victories in the two matches held. Benhadi and Bunch defeated their opponents, 6-1, 6-1, while Mya Fuentes and Marta Martinez won a three-set match, 3-6, 7-5, 10-7. In singles play, the Wildcats captured three of the four matches, with Anisiya Simpson winning the Dragons' lone singles point, 6-3, 6-7, 10-8 over Victoria Martinez.
The Dragons were scheduled to wrap up their Invitational on Sunday morning against Temple, but adverse weather conditions forced the cancellation of that match.
