Men's Tennis Downs Villanova for Third Straight Win Saturday, 6-1

PHILADELPHIA -- The Drexel men's tennis team won its third consecutive match Saturday night with a 6-1 win over the Villanova Wildcats at Legacy Center, while the women's team won its seventh straight, 5-2. With the win, head coach Mehdi Rhazali became the second coach in Drexel history to win at least 50 matches on both the men's and women's sides.
The Dragons' men improved to 7-3 on the young season, while the women are now 10-1.
In the men's match, the Dragons jumped out to the doubles point with wins from Kashyap Ashok and Sinan Orhon, 6-4, as well as Hamza Laalej and Youssef Lahlou, 6-4, before winning the top five singles matches to take the overall contest. Laalej picked up a three-set, 6-2, 1-6, 7-6 (3) win over Luis Miranda followed by Balaji Lakshmanan's victory over Tyler Roth, 7-5, 6-3. Orhon then came away with a 7-5, 6-4 victory over Stefan Suarez in the third spot, followed by wins by Lahlou, 7-5, 6-4, over Thomas Dodson and a 6-0, 6-4 win by Alex Zenonos against Dylan Flanagan.
On the women's side, the Dragons got the doubles point with a 6-0 win from Ghita Benhadi and Kendra Bunch followed by a 6-3 victory from Lea Winkler and Honami Yazawa. Drexel then took the match in singles. Yazawa started things off with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Kaylan Rotman in the top spot, followed by Benhadi downing Victoria Martinez, 6-0, 6-2. To close it out, the Dragons go wins from Clary Rodriguez Cruz over Paulina Bajet, 6-0, 6-3, then Ryshena Providence, 8-6, over Alexandra Krugius.
Drexel returns to the court Sunday at noon as the men take on Wagner at the Armory. The women's team returns Wednesday when both teams take on Temple at Legacy.
