SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Drexel women's rowing team capped off the Hornet Invitational hosted by Sacramento State on Sunday with a win by the varsity eight on Lake Natoma.
Drexel's top boat rowed to a 6:43.1, beating a tough Loyola Marymount crew by six-tenths of a second. In the next race, the Dragons' second varsity eight finished second with a time of 7:00.9, eight seconds behind San Diego State.
The Dragons earned a second-place finish in the varsity eight in the morning's racing, finishing ahead of Saint Mary's and behind Loyola Marymount, which won with a time of 6:43. Also in the morning's racing, the second varsity eight did not finish its race after a jumped seat and ejection from the boat caused the crew to stop racing. In the afternoon's racing, the varsity eight finished a second and a half behind host Sacramento State, before the women's second varsity eight closed the day with a third-place finish with a time of 6:58.3.
The rest of the women's crew as well as the men's team were in action on Saturday back in Philadelphia on the Schuylkill, winning four of five races.
The Dragons will all compete in the Murphy Cup Regatta next Saturday on the Schuylkill River.
