Women's Tennis Earns Program's First Win Over Charleston Sunday, 4-1

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel women's tennis team beat the College of Charleston Cougars on Sunday for the first time in the program's history at the Hecht Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania. Drexel improves to 13-3 (1-0 CAA) on the year, while the Cougars fall to 12-7 (1-2 CAA).

"We are proud of how we took care of what we've been working on these past two weeks," head coach Mehdi Rhazali said. We had great effort and attitude, and we played well against a tough College of Charleston team."

In doubles play, the Dragons got a victory in the third spot from HonamiYazawa and Lea Winkler, 6-3, but they would eventually drop the doubles point. Drexel, however, would pull itself back into it in singles play with wins in the top four positions to secure the victory. Yazawa downed Liza Fieldsend in the top spot, 6-4, 6-2, while Kendra Bunch came away with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Christi Woodson in the second spot. Ghita Benhadi cruised past Mara Argyriou in the third, 6-2, 6-1, and Lea Winklers put it away with a 7-6 (2), 6-4, win over Rachel McNeely in the fourth position.

The Dragons return to action this week when they head west for their spring break trip to California with matches against San Francisco, Santa Clara and Sacramento State.
