Women's Tennis Closes CAA Tournament Run Friday in Loss to Tribe

ELON, N.C. – The eighth-seeded Drexel women's tennis team concluded its run at the Colonial Athletic Association Championships and its season Friday morning with a 4-0 loss in the quarterfinals to the top-seeded William & Mary Tribe at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center at Elon. Drexel had advanced to the quarterfinals with a 4-0 win Thursday morning against Hofstra.

The Dragons end the year with a 16-9 (2-3 CAA) mark, a program record for single-season victories. William & Mary, which is ranked No. 50 in the nation, moves on to Saturday's semifinals.

Drexel gave the Tribe a run in doubles, but would ultimately drop the point. Lea Winkler and Honami Yazawa forced a tiebreak at No. 3 and fell, while Ryshena Providence and Clary Rodriguez Cruz took the No. 79-ranked doubles duo to a tiebreak, but the match went unfinished. With the doubles point in hand, the Tribe put the Dragons away in singles. The Dragons dropped matches, in order, at Nos. 4, 1 and 5 to fall.
