
Men's Varsity 8 Wins Saturday in Season Opener at Rumson Boat Race

RUMSON, N.J. – The Drexel rowing team won three of four races Saturday morning to kick off the fall 2017 season at the Rumson Boat Race on the Navesink River in Rumson, N.J.
The Dragons earned victories by the men's varsity eight, women's varsity eight and the women's second varsity eight. The men's second varsity eight finished second behind Army West Point. Villanova and Coast Guard (V8 only) rounded out the field.
Drexel's women's varsity eight got the season started with a victory in the Cara Fry boat and a time of 10:54.5, followed by the men's varsity eight coming out on top in the Lois Krall II boat with a time of 8:49.2. Rounding out the quick morning on the Navesink was the women's second varsity eight coming away victorious in the Marlene Buckley II boat with a time of 10:08.4 to edge Villanova by less than a second, while the men's second varsity eight, racing in the Sandra Lee Sheller boat, finished ahead of Villanova and behind Army West Point with a time of 9:20.4.
Following the Rumson Boat Race, Drexel will have three weeks off from competition before picking the fall season back up on Saturday, Oct. 14 at the Navy Day Regatta on the Schuylkill River.
