NEWARK, N.J. - The Drexel women's tennis team won its fifth consecutive match on Saturday afternoon at NJIT, pulling out a 4-3 victory with the doubles point and three singles matches. The Dragons won their second match of the weekend for a second consecutive week.
All three Drexel doubles teams won their matches, with Ghita Benhadi and Kendra Bunch winning 6-3 at No. 1, Salma Ziouti and Clary Rodriguez Cruz blanking their opponents at No. 2, 6-0, and Ryshena Providence and Marta Martinez continuing their strong play at No. 3, 6-1.
In singles action, the Dragons split six matches which was good enough for the overall victory. Benhadi came out on top in the No. 1 position, winning 7-5, 6-1. Rodriguez Cruz had to fight for her straight-set victory at No. 4 but got it done, winning 7-6 (7), 6-0. Bunch needed three sets to win at No. 3, but she rebounded from a 6-3 defeat in the first set to win the next two, 6-3, 6-1.
The Dragons will look to continue their winning ways next Friday when they visit Penn on the other side of 33rd Street. That match begins at noon.
