Northeastern Holds Off Drexel in Boston, 75-69

Boston, Mass. – Northeastern held off a late Drexel rally and defeated the Dragons at Matthews Arena, 75-69. The Dragons trailed by as many as 14 in the second half, but made a late flurry and cut the lead to three but Northeastern answered with seven straight points to come away with the win.
The Huskies won for the fourth straight time and improved to 18-9 overall. They are now 11-4 in the CAA. Drexel dropped its third straight game and fell to 5-10 in league play and 11-17 overall.
Tramaine Isabell and Sammy Mojica combined to score 12 straight points for the Dragons as they chipped away at the lead. Isabell's driving lay-up with 2:34 to go made it a 68-65 Northeastern lead. On the ensuing possession, Vasa Pusica drained a three-pointer and after a Drexel miss, he made two free throws to put the game out of reach.
Isabell scored 19 of his 24 points in the second half for Drexel. He was 8-for-12 from the floor over the final 20 minutes of the game. Troy Harper had a big night off the bench. The junior scored 17 points with an efficient 6-for-9 shooting performance. Mojica, in his final game in front of his hometown fans, chipped in with 13 points. The Dragons shot 53 percent in the game, but finished with 16 turnovers. Austin Williams played just 15 minutes after leaving the game after landing awkwardly. He did block one shot, and with that, passed Rodney Williams and moved into seventh place on the Drexel career list for blocked shots with 29.
Pusica had a huge first half for Northeastern. The San Diego transfer scored 17 of his team-high points in the first half, was 7-for-11 from the floor and nailed a three-pointer right before intermission to put the Huskies up by 10 at the break. Northeastern held the lead despite Drexel shooting 62 percent from the floor. However, the Dragons struggled taking care of the ball. They turned it over 10 times, which led to 14 Northeastern points. The Huskies never trailed in the game.
The Dragons play the final game of a three game road stretch on Saturday afternoon at Hofstra. It will be Drexel's final regular season road game of the year. The Dragons come home and close the season against Delaware and UNCW.
