CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The No. 9 Drexel women's squash team advanced to the Kurtz Cup B Division final with a victory Saturday evening over No. 13 Brown in the semifinals, 7-2. The Dragons will meet No. 10 Dartmouth in the final Sunday morning at 11 a.m. in Cambridge, Mass. Drexel improved its record to 10-8 on the season.
The top of the Dragons' lineup was strong again and helped power the Blue and Gold to the victory. With their victories, Ryan Morgan became the first Drexel women's squash player to win 50 career matches, while Hannah Blatt won her 15th match of the season to tie the program's single-season mark.
Anna Hughes again played well at No. 1, taking down Quincy Beck, 11-6, 11-8, 11-8. Hayley Hughes then outlasted Alexa Jacobs in four, 11-3, 11-5, 6-11, 11-2, followed by Morgan's 11-6, 11-9, 11-5 victory over Hannah Seckendorf. Blatt then downed Isabell R. Young at No. 4, 11-5, 11-1, 11-9, while Ona Prokes toughed out a 15-13, 11-4, 12-10 decision over Katrina Northrop. After Fiona Power's 11-6, 16-14, 11-9 defeat of Catherine Kimmel, the Dragons dropped Nos. 7 and 8. At No. 9, though, Emma MacGillivray cruised past Lauren Kotin, 11-3, 11-3, 11-3.
In the other semifinal, No. 10 Dartmouth swept No. 11 Williams, 9-0. Sunday will mark the third straight year Drexel and Dartmouth have met in the Kurtz Cup final. Dartmouth has won each of the previous two, 5-4. The match will begin Sunday at 11 a.m.
