Women's Tennis Wins Again, This Time 4-2 Over Stony Brook

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Drexel women's tennis team won for the seventh time in its last eight matches on Sunday morning as the Dragons handled Stony Brook at a neutral site, 4-2. Drexel dropped the doubles point, but won four of the five singles matches that were completed to clinch the overall match victory.

After a rare instance in which the Dragons failed to win a doubles match - though Salma Ziouti and Clary Rodriguez Cruz were leading at No. 2 doubles when the point was clinched by Stony Brook - Drexel came out firing in singles action. Kendra Bunch needed three sets to put down Ester Chikvashvili at No. 2, 4-6, 6-0, 6-2, but the next three Dragons in the lineup were able to take care of business in straight sets. Ziouti won at No. 3 6-3, 6-1, Rodriguez Cruz captured the No. 4 match 6-1, 6-4, and Anisiya Simpson put up a mirror score in her match at No. 5, 6-4, 6-1.

The win closed a busy weekend which saw Drexel's five-match win streak snapped, but another one started as the Dragons won two in a row to close out the weekend. Next up for the Dragons will be a test against Binghamton at the Hecht Hamlin Center next Friday. That is set to get underway at 6 p.m.
