Tennis Nets Pair of Wins Over Binghamton

PHILADELPHIA - The Drexel men's and women's teams each scored victories over Binghamton at the Hecht/Hamlin Center on Friday night. The men's team defeated the Bearcats 5-2, while the women rolled to a 6-1 win.

The Dragons won the top two doubles matches in both the men's and women's matches to claim the doubles point. On the men's side, singles play was a battle as only Sinan Orhon at No. 4 was able to claim a straight-sets victory, winning 6-4, 6-1. Three other Dragons - Balaji Lakshmanan at No. 1, Sanil Jagtiani at No. 3 and Xandy Hammitt at No. 6 - all got well-earned points in three sets to provide the winning margin.

The women also needed a pair of three-set grinders to finish off Binghamton. Salma Ziouti at No. 2 and Anisiya Simpson at No. 4 both won in three sets. Meanwhile, Kendra Bunch took care of business at No. 1 in two sets, 6-1, 6-1. Clary Rodriguez Cruz at No. 3 won 6-2, 6-1, while Marta Martinez at No 6 claimed a 6-3, 6-3 victory.

The Dragons will get right back to work on Saturday when they host Quinnipiac at the Hecht/Hamlin Center at 6 p.m.
