Williamsburg, Va. – Tramaine Isabell and Kurk Lee combined for 45 points as Drexel knocked off William & Mary on the road, 91-79, in front of a crowd of 3,758 at Kaplan Arena. It was the fourth straight win of the season for the Dragons (11-15, 5-7 CAA), who had all five starters score in double figures. The Tribe (15-8, 8-4) entered the game tied for the top spot in the Colonial Athletic Association.
The Dragons shot a season-best 62 percent from the floor. Drexel led early, but trailed for the majority of the game before finally taking the lead late in the second half on a Sammy Mojica three-pointer with 6:22 to play. The lead went back and forth until Drexel took the lead for good when Isabell fed Alihan Demir for a lay-up with under four minutes to go. With the Dragons holding a slim one-point lead, Isabell and Demir each hit three-pointers, extending the lead to 80-73 with under a minute to play. The Tribe did not get any closer the rest of the day.
Isabell nearly had Drexel's first triple-double in more than a decade. The junior scored 23 points, handed out eight assists and grabbed eight rebounds. Lee finished with 22 points and five assists. Both guards sank three three-pointers as the Dragons finished 11-for-22 from behind the three-point stripe. Mojica and Demir each added 12 points, while Austin Williams was 5-for-5 shooting and had 10 points. Williams also grabbed eight rebounds and blocked three shots. He entered the game ranked 10th in the nation in blocks per game.
The first 20 minutes featured some very good offensive play on both ends. The Tribe held a five-point lead at the break despite allowing the Dragons to shoot 64 percent from the floor. Drexel finished the half 16-for-25 from the floor and knocked down seven of its 12 long-range attempts. The Tribe shot 56 percent and took advantage of six Drexel turnovers that it turned into 10 points. William & Mary did not commit a turnover in the half.
David Cohen had an outstanding game for the Tribe, scoring 26 points, handing out nine assists and committing just one turnover. William & Mary shot 45 percent from the floor. The Tribe came into the game making 51 percent of its shots. Justin Pierce added 15 points.
The four straight wins marks the longest win streak for the Dragons since the 2014-15 team won six straight games. It was the third time this season that Drexel defeated the CAA's first place team. Drexel upset the College of Charleston in early January and then downed Northeastern at the DAC on Jan. 27.
The Dragons return home for one game before heading out on the road for three straight contests. Drexel will host Towson on Thursday night at 7 p.m. in the Daskalakis Athletic Center.
