Towson Rallies to Defeat Drexel in Overtime, 94-92
2/8/2018 8:48:00 PM | Men's Basketball
Philadelphia, Pa. – Towson rallied from an 18-point deficit and went on to defeat Drexel in overtime, 94-92. The Tigers snapped Drexel's four-game winning streak and improved to 17-9 overall and 7-6 in the Colonial Athletic Association. Drexel fell to 5-8 in league play and 11-15 this season.
Kurk Lee's three-pointer with 11:11 to play gave the Dragons what seemed to be comfortable 66-47 cushion. Towson answered back and in just six minutes had the lead back into single digits. The Dragons rebounded and increased their lead to 12, but again the Tigers answered. Towson went on a 12-3 run to make it 80-77. Lee sank three free throws in a span of 20 seconds as Drexel led by six. Mike Morsell then took over for Towson. He sank a three-pointer and then, after a Drexel miss, was fouled while putting home a rebound. He converted the old fashioned three-point play to even the score at 83-83. Lee's three-pointer with a few seconds to play missed and the game went to an extra period.
In the extra period, Drexel scored five straight points to take an 89-85 lead. After a Zane Martin free throw, the Dragons missed a jumper and Morsell nailed back-to-back three-pointers to give the Tigers the lead for good. Drexel had one last chance, but Isabell's drive to the basket came up short and the Tigers escaped Philadelphia with the win.
Isabell led the Dragons with 32 points, seven assists and added six rebounds. He was 11-for-22 shooting in the game. Lee added 20 points and three steals, while Alihan Demir added 18 points, eight rebounds and three assists. Drexel struggled from deep throughout the night, making just eight of its 29 long-range attempts.
Morsell finished the day with 31 points, 22 of which came in the second half and the overtime period. Martin added 25 points in front of his hometown fans, while Eddie Keith II had 19 points on 9-for-11 shooting and finished with a team-high eight rebounds. The Tigers had 21 second-chance points from their 20 offensive rebounds. They also shot 51 percent in the game.
The Dragons will play their next three games on the road. The first of the three comes on Saturday at the College of Charleston. The Dragons won their first meeting of the year with the Cougars in early January.
