PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel men's basketball team has finalized its non-conference schedule for the upcoming 2018-19 season. The highlights of the schedule include a pair of games against Philadelphia Big 5 teams, including one at the Palestra, and a road game at four-time national champion UConn.
The 2018-19 campaign begins with two road games on Nov. 9 at Eastern Michigan and two days later at Big Ten-foe Rutgers. Bryn Athyn and Boston University will come to the Daskalakis Athletic Center prior to the Thanksgiving holiday. Those games sandwich a contest at La Salle. The Dragons will be looking for their third straight win at La Salle. They will face a team led by Drexel alum Ashley Howard, who is in his first season as head coach.
After the Thanksgiving break, Drexel will play at Bowling Green on Sunday, Nov. 25, before coming home for four straight games. The homestand includes rematches from last year against NJIT, Robert Morris and Loyola (Md.). It concludes with a game against UMBC on Dec. 8. The Retrievers made history last year by becoming the first No. 16 seed to defeat a No. 1 seed (Virginia) in the NCAA Tournament.
The Dragons have a brief two game trip to New England to finish out the road portion of the non-conference schedule. Drexel will face Quinnipiac as part of a tripleheader on Dec. 16 at Mohegan Sun Arena in Connecticut. The other games feature Rhode Island playing West Virginia and Tulsa meeting Dayton. On Dec. 18, the Dragons will face UConn under first year head coach Danny Hurley.
Drexel closes the non-conference slate with a home game against Temple at the Palestra. It will be the last time the Dragons will compete against Fran Dunphy on the Temple sidelines as the long-time coach has announced the upcoming season will be his last.
