WASHINGTON, D.C. - Former Drexel basketball player Phil Goss has been placed on the Washington Wizards roster for the upcoming MGM Resorts NBA Summer League 2018 in Las Vegas. The Wizards will play three preliminary round games beginning on July 6 before being seeded for the summer league, which runs through July 17.
Goss, a guard, will have the unique opportunity to not just play for the Wizards, but to coach. He is listed as a player/assistant coach for the team. Some of the other players on his team include former Indiana star Thomas Bryant, first-round pick Troy Brown, Jr. of Oregon and Aaron Harrison, formerly of the University of Kentucky.
Goss, who graduated from Drexel in 2005, has been playing in Europe since graduation. Most recently, Goss has played for first division team PAOK in Greece. Previously, the Oxon Hill, Md. native played on first division teams in Italy and France. He started his career with stops in the Netherlands, Turkey, Israel and Poland.
During his career at Drexel, Goss scored 1,473 career points and was a part of three National Invitation Tournament teams. He drained 306 three-pointers, the second highest total in school history, and shot 38 percent from behind the arc, ranking him ninth all-time at the school. In February of 2004 against Hofstra, Goss went 6-for-6 from long range. The six three-pointers without a miss are the most ever for a Drexel player. On the defensive end, Goss came up with 166 steals in his career, the fourth highest total ever at Drexel.
