UNCW Defeats Drexel in Wilmington, 97-83

Wilmington, N.C. - UNCW went on a 17-2 run early in the second half and turned a seven-point deficit into a lead and defeated Drexel, 97-83. Kurk Lee led Drexel with 19 points and made five three-pointers. James Butler had his third double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds in the loss.
Drexel (8-11, 2-4 CAA) appeared to be in good shape early in the second half. Trevor John knocked down a three-pointer to give the Dragons a 49-42 lead two minutes into the half. UNCW (7-11, 3-2) answered with an 11-2 run of its own to take the lead. Later in the half, the Seahawks used a ten-point spurt to extend a three-point lead to 13. The Dragons were unable to get the lead under eight points the rest of the way.
Lee, in just his second game back from an injury, was 5-for-8 from deep. Butler was 7-for-9 from the floor despite battling Devontae Cacok for most of the night. Butler's double-double included seven rebounds on the defensive end. Troy Harper added 17 points, while Alihan Demir and John finished with 13 and 11 points, respectively. Both players sank three treys in the game as the Dragons were 12-for-36 from behind the arc. Freshman Camren Wynter handed out eight assists to lead the club.
Cacok, who came off the bench in this game, had another double-double, finishing with 24 points and 12 rebounds. He became UNCW's all-time leading rebounder with his first board of the game. Ty Gadsden and Jeantal Cylla each added 20 points for UNCW, which shot 50 percent in the game. Freshman Kai Toews had 13 assists to go along with 10 points. The Seahawks were 11-for-25 from deep.
Drexel returns home to face Towson on Thursday and James Madison on Saturday as part of homecoming weekend.
