PHILADELPHIA – Drexel men's tennis dropped a close match to Liberty on Friday morning at the Hecht/Hamlin Center, 6-1.
The Dragons started out on a high note, winning the doubles point by earning victories in the No. 2 and No. 3 spot. Juan Manuel Sanchez and Alvaro Cruz Chamorro teamed up to earn the first victory in the No. 3 spot against Eddie Gutierrez and Ian Sturgill, 6-3. The next win was more of a challenge, as Xandy Hammitt and Sanil Jagtiani went on to beat John Wilson and Steve Mundt in a tie breaker, 7(3)-6.
In singles action, Chase Burton and John Wilson put the Flames up 2-1 with wins in the No. 6 and No. 5 spot. The Dragons refused to let up, though, and took back their lead by notching two back-to-back wins from Youssef Lahlou and Sinan Orhon in the No. 4 and No. 2 spots. Despite their effort, the Dragons were unable to hold onto the early lead as Liberty earned the final wins in the No. 3 and No. 1 spots for the 4-3 win.
Drexel will regroup and get right back into it with two more matches on Sunday. The first match will be against Morgan State at 10 a.m. at the Armory followed by the final match of the weekend at the Hecht/Hamlin Center against La Salle. Match time for La Salle is set for 6:30 p.m.
