Men's Tennis Earns Wins Over Morgan State and La Salle

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel men's tennis team earned victories against both Morgan State and La Salle on Sunday. The Dragons started their day with a 6-1 win against Morgan State at the Armory before later defeating La Salle by an identical score at the Hecht/Hamlin Center.

Morgan State
The Dragons started off their morning earning the doubles point with wins in the No. 3 and No. 1 spot. Alvaro Cruz Chamorro and Juan Manuel Sanchez teamed up in the No. 3 spot to take down Nihit Rawal and Shrey Gupta, 6-1, to set the tone for the match. Following them, Sinan Orhon and Djordje Janackovic stepped up to defeat Sebastian Lopez and Oguzhan Ceylan, 6-1, to secure the doubles point in the No. 1 spot.

Sinan Orhon and Sanil Jagtiani earned singles wins to give the Dragons a 3-0 lead before Chamorro clinched the match in the No. 1 spot. Chamorro defeated his opponent Serhii Kharchev, 6-3, 7-5. The match was then decided, 4-0, however, the two teams agreed to play eight game sets instead of two full sets for the remainder of the lineup, giving the Dragons two more wins for the 6-1 victory.

La Salle
Drexel earned the doubles point to give them a 1-0 advantage with wins in the No. 2 and No. 3 spot. Xandy Hammitt and Sanil Jagtiani beat Connor Merril and Rogelio Gonzalez, 6-4, in the No. 2 spot while Alvaro Cruz Chamorro and Juan Manuel Sanchez defeated Colin Lucius and Andrija Bozovic, 6-4, in the No. 3 spot.

In singles action, the Dragons earned victories in every spot except for the top of the ladder to earn the 6-1 victory. Drexel cruised past La Salle, beating every opponent by three or more points on every set.

Drexel will return to the courts when it travels to Lehigh on Sunday, Feb. 10 for an 11 a.m. match.
