Men’s Swimming and Diving Sets Three Meet Records to Close Patriot Invitational

FAIRFAX, Va. – The Drexel men's swimming and diving team set three more meet records on Saturday at the Patriot Invitational, bringing their tally up to eight across the three days of competition.
Jason Arthur set a new standard in the 200 back, winning with a time of one minute, 45.08 seconds. Stathis Malamas broke the event record in the 100 free with a time of 44.33. The duo also helped break the record in the 400 free relay alongside T.J. Given and Kiran Richardson. The relay team touched the wall in 2:59.34.
Of the 40 events contested at the Patriot Invitational, 18 had new records set.
The Dragons collected nine top-10 finishes on the last day of competition. Paris Raptis claimed silver in the 200 fly with an NCAA 'B' cut time of 1:46.49.
Drexel placed three in the 100 free with Richardson (fourth) and Given (10th) finishing behind Malamas. In the 200 back, Spencer Hill joined Arthur in the top-10 with a seventh-place result.
Jake McBride finished 10th in the 1650 free with a time of 16:12.01.
The Dragons finished third as a team with 697.5 points. UNCW won the Invitational with 788.5 points, and Florida Atlantic finished as runners-up with 738.5.
Drexel takes next week off before closing out 2019 with the U.S. Open Championships in Atlanta. The Championships run Dec. 4-7.
