Women’s Basketball Falls at Bucknell on Sunday

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Drexel University women's basketball team (5-4) dropped a nonconference affair to the Bucknell University Bison (6-3) by a final of 60-49 on Sunday afternoon from Sojka Pavilion in Lewisburg, Pa.
HIGHLIGHTS
* Senior Bailey Greenberg scored a game-high 16 points on 6-of-11 shooting including two three-pointers. She also grabbed a team-high six rebounds along with two assists and a steal.
* Sophomore Maura Hendrixson hit four field goals, all three-pointers, to finish with 12 points on the day.
* Senior Aubree Brown dished out seven assists and had five boards, three points and two steals.
* A total of nine Dragons made field goals on the day and 10 tallied points.
* Drexel still leads the all-time series against Bucknell, 18-10.

Bucknell jumped out to a quick lead in the first quarter, owning a 12-3 edge early with Hendrixson making a three-pointer for the Dragons. Just beyond the midway point of the opening period, Drexel head coach Denise Dillon called timeout with 4:35 to play to settle the Dragons. Though Drexel was able to cut into the deficit, Bucknell's Abby Kapp hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to give the Bison a nine-point lead after 10 minutes of action.

After allowing 19 points to the Bison in the first quarter, Drexel held Bucknell to single digits (9) in the second to get back into the contest. Bucknell called timeout with 6:23 to play after three-pointers from Bailey Greenberg and Aubrey Brown to get within five, 21-16. The Dragons ended the half on a 9-2 run with layups from Kayla Bacon and Greenberg, a pair of free throws from freshman AJ Davis and a trey from Hendrixson with time expiring to get DU within one.

Drexel shot 5-of-10 from deep in the first half while Greenberg was the only scorer in double figures with 10 points including two treys. Hendrixson also knocked down a pair from beyond the arc for six points at the break.

Though the Dragons held the Bison to just 3-of-9 shooting in the quarter, Bucknell stretched its lead to three after going 6-of-7 from the line. With under a minute to go in the quarter, Hendrixson hit her third three of the game, 39-38, before Drexel's full-court press forced a 10-second violation. The Dragons had a few chances to take the lead but could not get a shot to fall. A Drexel foul with 2.4 seconds left led to the team's fifth and two made Bucknell free throws to end the quarter, putting the Bison back up by three.

Keishana Washington made the first shot of the fourth quarter for the Dragons, a three-pointer at 6:28 to make it 45-41 Bucknell. With back-to-back media timeouts at 4:26 and 3:50, the Dragons were still looking for their second field goal of the quarter as Bucknell pushed the lead to 10 at 51-41. Sophomore Kate Connolly entered the game late and made a three-pointer at 3:18 to get within seven, 51-44. But a trey on the other end kept the advantage in double digits. Hendrixson hit her fourth and final three-pointer down the stretch with 1:40 to play, 57-49.

* Drexel shot 34.6% (18-of-52) from the floor, 39.1% (9-of-23) from three-point range and 100.0% (4-of-4) from the free-throw line.
* Bucknell only made one more field goal (19-of-44) and had two less three pointers (7-of-16). The difference came at the foul line as the Bison went 15-of-19 compared to Drexel's 4-of-4.
* Bucknell led rebounding, 33-22. 22 came as a season-low for Drexel.
* After averaging 32.5 points per game in paint, Drexel was held to just 12 points in the paint on Sunday.
* DU led bench scoring, 21-6.
