
Drexel’s Ranked Wrestling Trio Pick Up Wins in EIWA Dual Loss at Navy

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Drexel wrestling team (4-6, 1-2 EIWA) fell to the Navy Midshipmen (5-2, 3-1 EIWA) in a conference matchup on Friday night from Alumni Hall in Annapolis, Md. by a final of 25-12. Drexel's ranked trio of junior Ebed Jarrell (165), redshirt senior Stephen Loiseau (197) and redshirt senior Joey Goodhart (HWT) came away with individual wins in the team loss. Drexel returns to action tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 2 when the Dragons host American back home at the DAC in Philadelphia on Alumni Night.
Junior Ebed Jarrell, ranked as high as No. 14, won one of three bouts for Drexel at 165 pounds. Jarrell came from behind in the 9-4 decision win over Navy's Tanner Skidgel. The junior trailed 3-2 with a two-point reversal to his credit in the first period. Skidgel got an escape in the second as he took a 4-2 edge into the final period. Jarrell got back within one with an escape. With time winding down, Jarrell got takedown with 14 seconds left to go up 5-4 to swing the bout in his favor before a four-point nearfall in the final seconds to seal the win. He improved to 15-2 on the year and 8-1 in duals. The victory was the 50th of Jarrell's career at Drexel.
Redshirt senior Stephen Loiseau, ranked No. 13, dominated with a 16-0 technical fall win over Navy's Alex Benoit in the penultimate bout the evening at 197 pounds. Loiseau only needed the first period and two minutes-28 seconds to get Drexel five team points. He scored a takedown and a two-point nearfall followed by three four-point nearfalls in the first-period victory. The senior is 15-5 on the year with a team-best eight technical fall wins to his credit.
Fellow redshirt senior Joey Goodhart, ranked No. 16, closed the match with a 10-1 major decision win over Thomas Ott of the Midshipmen in the heavyweight bout. Goodhart was credited with an early takedown to lead 2-1 after the first period. A stall point and a two-point nearfall gave him a 5-1 advantage after two periods. He added five additional points in the third period behind an escape, a takedown and the riding time point as he accumulated three minutes-38 seconds. He now has a team-best 23 wins in 2018-19.
Junior Nick Widmann dropped a close 4-2 in sudden victory at 141 pounds to Navy's Cody Trybus while freshman Anthony Walters suffered a similar fate with a 3-1 loss in overtime at 184 pounds after Navy's Anthony Cable earned a late takedown with 15 seconds left in the sudden victory period.
