PHILADELPHIA – Camren Wynter scored 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds as Drexel defeated Delaware at the Daskalakis Athletic Center on Saturday afternoon, 68-60. The Dragons held the Blue Hens to just 42 percent shooting in the game as they evened the season series with their rivals from Newark. The win moved the Dragons back into sixth place in the CAA with a 7-9 record. The Blue Hens are now one game ahead of Drexel at 8-8.
Drexel (13-16) led by six at the half and increased its lead to 11 points just five minutes into the second half. Trevor John nailed a three-pointer with 15:03 to play to give the Dragons a 37-26 lead. That three-pointer was the 92nd of the season for the graduate student, which ties the Drexel single-season record set by Dominick Mejia. Drexel led the rest of the way. The Blue Hens (16-13) made a late comeback and cut the lead to five at 61-56 with 1:35 to play, but Wynter, Jarvis Doles and John each made a pair of free throws to ice the victory.
The Dragons played without leading scorer Troy Harper. The senior was injured in practice this week and will be out the rest of the season. Wynter was forced to play the entire game for the first time in his career and responded well, shooting 8-for-18 from the floor on his way to a game-high 19 points. Alihan Demir added 13, while James Butler scored 12 and had nine rebounds. Matey Juric was pressed into duty due to Harper's injury and played a career-high 33 minutes. He had four points and five rebounds.
Ryan Allen led Delaware with 18 points. Eric Carter added 17 points and eight rebounds. The Hens were outrebounded, 39-24, and struggled from the line, making just 15 of their 24 attempts. Drexel will be back at the DAC on Thursday against Hofstra and will close the regular season on Saturday against Northeastern.
