Drexel Drops Regular-Season Finale to Northeastern

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel men's basketball team (13-18, 7-11 CAA) dropped its senior day affair to the Northeastern Huskies (20-10, 14-4 CAA) on Saturday afternoon at the Daskalakis Athletic Center, 90-66. Despite the loss, the Dragons earned the No. 6 seed in the 2019 CAA Tournament and will face the College of Charleston next Sunday in the opening round.
Freshman Camren Wynter dished out eight assists in the game to become Drexel's all-time freshman assists leader. Wynter, who led the team with 19 points, also had his third game this season with eight assists without committing a turnover. Graduate transfer Trevor John recorded three three-pointers to reach 101 on the year, the first Dragon to eclipse triple digits in a single season.
Drexel fell behind by 13 points early in the affair, trailing 22-9 midway through the first period. Wynter had a strong first half, leading Drexel with 13 points at the break on 6-of-9 shooting. Freshman Coletrane Washington stepped up big off the bench in his nine first-half minutes, draining two treys for the Dragons. He hit the final two shots of the half with the first trimming the edge down to seven with 26 seconds left, 37-30. His second came from just beyond half court as he drained a 50-footer as time expired. Drexel trailed 37-33 at the half to get back in the game.
Northeastern then erupted in the second half to spoil the Dragons' final home game. With the Dragons down by four with 16:21 to play, the Huskies went on a 19-0 run to stretch the advantage to 60-37. Northeastern shot 57.1% in the final 20 minutes to race past Drexel. Junior Alihan Demir scored 10 of his 14 points in the final frame.
John hit one three in the first half with 5:29 on the clock to bring him 99 on the year. He nailed No. 100 on the campaign midway through the second half with 10:18 to play. His final trey brought him to 101 in 2018-19 with 2:58 left in the contest.
Senior walk-on Kevin Doi earned his first career start on senior day, playing five minutes. John, injured senior guard Troy Harper and four-year team manager Jake Paul were also recognized before the game.
