Men's Basketball Names Award Winners at End of Season Banquet

PHILADELPHIA - The Drexel men's basketball program announced its award winners on Monday night at its annual postseason banquet. The athletics department recognized the student-athletes who excelled both on and off the court during the season and said good-bye to its four seniors.
Freshman Camren Wynter was named the team's Most Valuable Player. Wynter set a Drexel freshman record with 164 assists, which also gave him the Assist Award. His 5.4 assists per game ranked third in the CAA. The first-year player also averaged 11.3 points and 4.6 rebounds. He was named the CAA Rookie of the Year and also won the CAA Rookie of the Week Award on five occasions.
Sophomore James Butler picked up the the "Sweep" Award, named after former Drexel standout Bob Stephens. The award goes to the Dragon who led the team in rebounds. Butler averaged 8.2 rebounds per game and finished seventh in the CAA in that category.
Matey Juric was given the Dragon "D" Award as the team's top defender. Juric also won the Academic Award that goes to the Dragon with the highest grade-point average and success in the classroom. The freshman holds a 3.96 grade-point average.
Graduate student Trevor John was given the Donald Shank Spirit & Dedication Award. John brought energy, enthusiasm and dedication to the team at every practice, workout, film session and on game day. John also set the school record by making 103 three-pointers.
The Samuel D. Cozen Award for the most improved player was given to senior Troy Harper. The Philadelphia native led the team in scoring with 15.8 points per game before missing the last few games due to an injury. Harper scored more than 1,000 points during his career at Campbell and at Drexel. He was among the national leaders in free throws made and attempted before being sidelined.
Harper, John, Kevin Doi and senior manager Jake Paul made their final appearances with the team on Monday night.
