Wrestling Boasts Nation’s Highest GPA, Five Named NWCA Scholar All-Americans

MANHEIM, Pa. – The Drexel University wrestling team earned the nation's top team grade point average while Evan Barczak, Joey Goodhart, Ebed Jarrell, Parker Kropman and Stephen Loiseau were named 2019 National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Division I Scholar All-Americans. The news was announced on Thursday via an NWCA press release. The Dragons owned a team GPA of 3.63 for the top academic team in the country.
Drexel (3.63) finished ahead of American (3.56), Harvard (3.55) and Stanford (3.42) to claim the country's top team grade point average.
With five Dragons named Scholar All-Americans by the NWCA, Drexel finished tied for third for the most recipients of the award.
Barczak, a sophomore, went 20-14 at 157 pounds for Drexel on the year. He won three major decision, four technical falls and had three pins. Through two years, Barczak has a career record of 36-26. He was an EIWA Academic Achievement Award winner for the first time this spring.
Goodhart, a redshirt senior, made his third NCAA Tournament appearance this campaign. He went 34-9 on the year and 102-51 in his career to finish 8th on Drexel's all-time leaderboard. Goodhart was also named to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic At-Large Team and was an EIWA Academic Achievement Award winner for the third time this spring.
Jarrell, a redshirt junior, made his first NCAA Championship appearance this year. The 165 pounder went 22-6 in 2018-19 and now owns a 57-31 career mark with the Dragons. Jarrell was also named to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic At-Large Team and was an EIWA Academic Achievement Award winner for the third time this spring.
Kropman, a redshirt sophomore, transfered to Drexel from Binghamton this winter. He earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament for his first appearance. He went 10-10 for Drexel on the year. His biggest win of the year came against then-No. 2 ranked Matthew Kolodzik in a dual against Princeton. Kropman secured a late third-period takedown to get the 3-1 decision. Kropman was an EIWA Academic Achievement Award winner for the first time this spring.
Loiseau, a redshirt senior, made his second NCAA Championship appearance this season. He went 22-10 on the year and finished with 95 career wins to 55 losses. Loiseau was also named to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic At-Large Team and was an EIWA Academic Achievement Award winner for the second time this spring.
