Women’s Rowing Wins Sunday V8 Final at San Diego Classic

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Drexel University women's rowing team finished up at the two-day 2019 San Diego Crew Classic on Mission Bay in San Diego, Calif. on Sunday, April 7. The Varsity 8 capped the weekend with a win in the UC San Diego Health Cup Grand Final.

SUNDAY / V8 WINS GRAND FINAL
Drexel's Varsity 8 won the UC San Diego Health Cup Grand Final on Sunday morning, coming in with a time of 6:48.597. The Dragons finished just about four seconds faster than second-place Loyola Marymount (6:52.525). San Diego (6:55.861), Sacramento State (6:56.193), Seattle Pacific (6:57.161) and Georgetown (6:58.803) rounded out the six-boat finals.

SATURDAY / V8 AND 2V8 HEATS /2V8 THIRD FINAL
Drexel was narrowly edged by the University of San Diego in heat two of the Varsity 8 on Saturday morning. With Drexel in lane one, the Dragons clocked a time of 6:40.001 while USD finished at 6:39.599 for the win. The second-place finish moved Drexel to lane 4 in the Sunday Grand Final alongside Georgetown (Lane 1), USD (Lane 2), Sacramento State (Lane 3), Seattle Pacific (Lane 5) and Loyola Marymount (Lane 6).

Drexel's 2V8 finished fifth in the second heat of the Second Varsity 8 race, moving them to the afternoon final. In the third final for the 2V8, the Dragons placed second at 7:28.330, rough five second behind USD (7:23.066) and 12 seconds head of third-place Fordham (7:40.832). Saint Mary's (7:29.279) and UC San Diego (8:01.415) rounded out the five-boat, third final.
