TOWSON, Md. – Playing shorthanded, the Drexel women's tennis team nearly pulled off an impressive victory at Towson, but came up just short as the Dragons fell, 4-3. Drexel won singles points at the top three positions for its three points.
After dropping the doubles point, Drexel had to adjust its lineup due to the loss of Ghita Benhadi, who had been slated to play at No. 2 singles. The rest of the lineup moved up a spot, but Drexel did not have a seventh player to take over at No. 6, and therefore had to default.
Down 2-0 before singles play effectively got going, Drexel mounted a strong rally. The Dragons got straight sets wins at the top three spots from Salma Ziouti, Katka Majorova and Marta Martinez to move ahead 3-2.
Unfortunately, that was all the Dragons could muster as they dropped the remaining two singles matches to fall, 4-3.
Drexel will return to the courts on Wednesday, April 10 when they visit Towson at 2 p.m.
