Goodhart, Hennessy Win Semanik Awards at 2018-19 Best of Blue & Gold Banquet

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel Athletics Department held its annual Best of Blue & Gold Banquet on Thursday, May 16 in the Daskalakis Athletic Center. The banquet recaps and celebrates the top accomplishments of Drexel's student-athletes from the 2018-19 year as a number of awards were bestowed.
MARY AND JOHN SEMANIK AWARD RECIPIENTS
Awarded to the top senior student-athletes in the athletics department, the Mary and John Semanik Awards are given to the outstanding female and male athletes who best exemplify scholarship and athletic ideals of the former Directors of Athletics, Mr. and Mrs. Semanik. The year's winners were Kiera Hennessy of women's soccer and Joey Goodhart of wrestling.
KIERA HENNESSY / WOMEN'S SOCCER / DANBURY, CONN.
Hennessy, a key defender for women's soccer, has been a major asset for the Dragons' defense over the course of her 73-game career, starting in every game for the past two seasons on the back line. The Danbury, Connecticut native has contributed to 25 shutouts during her time in University City. Even as a defender, she tallied eight career goals, including five as a senior in 2018. She finished her redshirt senior campaign in 2018 with her second-straight All-CAA First Team selection after garnering the honor for the first time in 2017. Hennessy was also a 2018 United Soccer Coaches All-East Region Third Team pick and United Soccer Coaches Scholar Second Team selection. She is a four-time Colonial Athletic Association Commissioner's Academic Award winner. Hennessy is earning her degree in finance.
JOEY GOODHART / WRESTLING / LANCASTER, PA.
Goodhart, a heavyweight wrestler with over 100 career victories, capped his final year at Drexel with his third trip to the NCAA Championships. The Lancaster, Pennsylvania native went 102-51 in his time at University City, winning two-thirds of his bouts to finish eighth on Drexel's all-time wins leaderboard. As a redshirt senior, he placed third at the 2019 Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association Championships as he won a team-high 34 bouts on the campaign. He placed second at the 2017 EIWA Championships and seventh in 2016. Academically, he is a three-time National Wrestling Coaches Association Individual Scholar All-American, Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association Academic Achievement Award winner and Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area At-Large Team selection. Goodhart is earning his degree in marketing.
