Greek Tour 2019: Dragons Net Their Second Win

THESSALONIKI, Greece – The Drexel women's basketball team moved to 2-0 on its Greek tour on Tuesday as the Dragons defeated members of the Greek national team program, 64-51. The team spent most of the day on the bus from Athens to Thessaloniki, but overcame a slow start to lead for all of the final three quarters.
Bailey Greenberg led the way with 20 points, adding six rebounds and three steals. AJ Davis had 13 points and five boards. The duo went 12-for-15 from the free throw line, all of which came in the first half, fueling the Drexel offense. Mariah Leonard added six points and Kayla Bacon had five, while Kate Connolly added two points and six rebounds and Hannah Nihill scored two with five boards and three assists.
After spending the better part of seven hours on the bus from Athens, the Dragons predictably looked sluggish at first, falling behind 11-2. A timeout jolted them back into the game, however, and the defense took over as shots began to fall. By the end of the first quarter, Drexel held a 20-16 lead.
It was 35-27 at the break, but Greece pushed back and cut Drexel's lead down to a single possession on multiple occasions early in the third quarter. The Dragons never relinquished the lead, though, and Aubree Brown scored four with two assists in the period to help Drexel withstand the push and take a 49-43 lead into the fourth.
The Greek team wilted down the stretch, with Hannah Nihill creating instant offense and proving tough to handle on the defensive end as the Dragons rebuilt their double-digit lead and cruised to the finish.
Drexel will now head to its hotel an hour further down the road in Chalkidiki. The Dragons will be there for the next three nights, with a trip back into Thessaloniki coming on Thursday for a tour and the third and final game of the trip.
