HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Hofstra rallied from an eight-point second half deficit to defeat Drexel, 72-59, at the Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex. The Dragons led with 10 minutes to go, but the Pride went on a 17-0 run and improved to 15-7 (6-3 CAA) on the season. The loss dropped the Dragons record to 12-10. They are now 5-4 in league play.
Drexel started the second half off well as Zach Walton and James Butler scored on back-to-back possessions, forcing the Pride to call timeout less than a minute into the half. After a Hofstra bucket, the Dragons scored the next seven points to take a 43-37 lead with 15:22 remaining. Hofstra chipped away to tie it, but Coletrane Washington scored on a runner at the 9:56 mark, giving a 51-49 lead. That would be Drexel's final lead of the night as the Pride went on a run and held the Dragons without a point for the next seven and a half minutes. Tareq Coburn had seven of the 17 points during the stretch. He finished with a game-high 24 points.

Butler had a big game in the loss. The junior led Drexel with 21 points and 12 rebounds as he recorded his 14th double-double of the season. Butler was 10-for-13 from the floor. Walton added 14 points, while Wytner chipped in with 10. The Dragons shot 46 percent from the floor, but their turnovers led to 21 Hofstra points. They also struggled from deep, making only three of their 16 long-range attempts.
The first half was a back and forth affair. Hofstra held Drexel without a point for a stretch of more than five minutes as it took an 18-11 lead. After settling down, the Dragons answered with a 7-0 run to tie the game. One of the big plays during the stretch was a Tim Perry rebound off a missed free throw. Perry then put home a left-handed put back to even the score. The Pride eventually took back a five-point lead, but Wynter's jumper with just one second to play in the half to cut the Pride lead to 33-32 at intermission. Each team shot 50 percent from the field, but Drexel committed 10 turnovers in the opening frame, while Hofstra had six. James Butler led the first-half attack with 10 points.
The Dragons will have the week off before playing their third-straight road game on Saturday at Delaware.
