Women’s Basketball Defeats Towson in 59-50 CAA Battle at the DAC

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel University women's basketball team (14-6, 7-1 CAA) battled the Towson University Tigers (10-9, 5-3 CAA) and came out on top Friday evening by a final of 59-50 from Daskalakis Athletic Center in Philadelphia, Pa. The win came as the Dragons' seventh straight.
HIGHLIGHTS
* Drexel got a bit of revenge on Friday, taking down the Tigers by the nine-point edge as the two teams met for the first time since Towson got past DU in the 2019 CAA Championship title game last March.
* Drexel poured on 41 points in the first half as the squad shot 45.2% from the field with nine three-pointers. The second half turned into a physical battle with Drexel scoring just 18 point over the final 20 minutes. Towson was able to trim a first-half 16-point DU lead down to three late in the fourth.
* The Dragons made nine three-pointers in the first half, tying the team's single-game high on the season.
* Senior Bailey Greenberg now has 1607 career points, good for sixth place on Drexel's all-time scoring list. She finished the night with a game-high 19 points. The senior also had seven rebounds and five assists.
* Junior Hannah Nihill was the only other Dragon in double figures as she scored 11 points including three three-pointers in the first half.
* Senior Aubree Brown had seven points, seven boards and a game-high six assists.
* Sophomore Kate Connolly finished with nine points while fellow classmate Keishana Washington had eight. Connolly also grabbed seven rebounds.

Towson jumped out to an early 7-0 lead as Drexel called a timeout with 8:36 to reset. Following the break, the Dragons knocked down two three-pointers from Connolly and Washington to get some momentum off the bench. An 11-0 run with threes from Nihill, Washington and Greenberg gave the Dragons the lead and forced a Towson timeout with 3:31 to play in the quarter, 17-11. In total, DU went 6-of-10 from beyond the arc in the opening period to own an eight-point advantage after 10 minutes, 23-15.
Q2 /
Greenberg began the quarter with a three-pointer as she moved into double digits (11). With 7:31 to go, the senior made a mid-range jumper to bring her to 1601 career points, moving her into a tie for sixth place on Drexel's all-time scoring list. Another Nihill three and a close-range shot from Greenberg, now alone in sixth place, gave DU a 35-19 edge, its largest of the game. Towson used a late 6-0 to trim it down before Drexel scored the last four points to possess a 41-27 advantage at halftime.

Towson made the first three shots of the second half to make the score 41-33 in favor of Drexel. The offensive output slowed as the Dragons scored just eight points in the third. Though the Dragons committed six personal fouls in the quarter to put Towson in the bonus, DU still led by 10 heading into the fourth, 49-39.

Towson went on a 9-0 run over a six-plus minute stretch to get within three, 51-48. Nihill made a second-chance basket to stretch it back up to five as the Dragons held on for the 59-50 victory. Drexel made just three baskets in the fourth, including two from Brown, but went 4-of-6 from the line.
