Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Win Gold and Silver on Day One of CAA Championships

CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. – The Drexel Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving teams completed day one of the CAA Swimming and Diving Championships on Wednesday, winning both gold and silver medals while setting a couple of records. The women are in second place out of seven teams with a score of 66 while the men are in third place out of five with a score of 91.
The women's 200 medley team, consisting of Alexa Kutch, Gabrielle Rudy, Hollie Hopf and Lera Nasedkina, won gold and set a CAA all-time and meet record with a new benchmark of 1:39.26. That time is also a new program record.
In the men's 800 free, the team of Jason Arthur, Kevin Spear, Kiran Richardson and Stathis Malamas took silver with a time of 6:33.53. With that time, the relay team finished with the third best time in program history. Arthur's 200 free time of 1:37.64 is the programs second best time.
In the 1m men's diving finals, Anthony Musciano narrowly missed the podium, placing fourth with a score of 245.40 just behind UNCW's Brett Palo (255.55).
Although the women's 800 free relay did not place, Natalie Gundling set the programs fifth best time in her 200 free, touching the wall in 1:51.16.
The teams will be back in action tomorrow, Thursday, Feb. 20 to swim the 50 free, 500 free, 200 individual medley and 200 free relay while diving in the women's 3m.
