Dragons Fall to UNCW, 76-65

WILMINGTON, N.C. - UNCW scored the first nine points of the second half to take the lead and defeated Drexel, 76-65. The Seahawks shot 68 percent in the second half to take control of the game. The Dragons fell to 13-17 overall and 6-11 in league play.
UNCW took a four-point lead after its run to start the half, but the Dragons were able to tie it four occasions over the next six minutes of the game. Jaylen Sims scored on a lay-up at the 13:41 mark that put UNCW (10-20, 5-12) ahead for good. Drexel hung around and kept it a three-possession game until Jake Boggs drained a three-pointer with 3:50 to go to make it a 67-57 game.
James Butler led the Dragons with 16 points and 12 rebounds, despite playing limited minutes in the first half due to foul trouble. It was his 19th double-double of the year. Camren Wynter added 13 points, while Coletrane Washington had 11. The Dragons committed 18 turnovers in the game and were just 6-for-22 from long range.
Shykeim Phillips led UNCW with 20 points. Mike Okauru chipped in with 16 points off the bench. The Seahawks finished the game shooting 53 percent and turned the ball over just four times.
Drexel trailed by a point with 3:11 to play in the first half, but took the lead with an 8-0 run. Matey Juric gave Drexel the lead back with two free throws and then Coletrane Washington knocked down three-pointers in back-to-back possessions. Bowen finally snapped the run with a dunk but the Dragons took a 34-29 lead to the locker room. Wynter scored nine first half points, while Juric added eight points. The Dragons played the majority of the first half without James Butler and Zach Walton, who both got in early foul trouble.
The Dragons end the regular season on Saturday at the College of Charleston. The 2020 Hercules Tires CAA Men's Basketball Championship begins on Saturday in Washington, D.C.
