Women's Tennis Drops Match Against Penn

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel women's tennis lost to Penn by a score of 4-3. Drexel dropped to 8-2 while Penn improved to 5-5. The Dragons lost a match for the first time since Jan. 25 snapping an eight-match win streak.
Penn won the first and second-seeded matches to take the doubles point. The third-seeded match featuring Mya Fuentes and Tara Veluvolu went unfinished.
In singles play, Cristina Corte González won her sixth-seeded match 6-3, 6-0 to even the overall score at 1-1. Penn took the fourth-seeded flight, but lost the No. 3 match as Šárka Richterová picked up her 14th singles win of the year (6-4, 6-2) to even the score at 2-2.
After the fifth-seeded match concluded in favor of the Quakers, the first seeded flight between Salma Ziouti and #10 Iuliia Bryzgalova was finishing up. Ziouti took the first set by a score of 6-4, but Bryzgalova proved why she is nationally ranked by taking the second set 6-3 and eventually the third set 6-2 to clinch the match for Penn.
In second-seeded singles, Ghita Benhadi defeated her opponent in three sets 7-5, 0-6, 6-3.
The Dragons will travel to Annapolis, Md. on Saturday to face Navy at 2 p.m.
