No. 8 Men’s Squash Falls to No. 5 Rochester in Potter Cup Consolation Semifinals

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The eighth-ranked Drexel men's squash team fell 9-0 to No. 5 Rochester in the consolation semifinals of the Potter Cup. The contest was tighter than the overall score indicated as four individual matches went the distance.

Dylan Kachur jumped out to a 2-0 lead over Matthew Toth with 11-6 and 11-8 wins but could not finish off his opponent in the No. 2 position. Toth won the next three, 11-9, 11-6 and 11-4.

The No. 3 match between Matthew Lucente and Abdelrahman Lasheen went five games as well. Lucente won 13-11 in the opener but dropped the next two, 11-3 and 11-6. He forced a fifth game with an 11-4 result in the fourth but fell 11-9 in the decider.

Cesar Segundo Corona edged Noel Heaton in five games in the fourth-seeded match. Heaton lost the first game, 11-7, but took control of the match with 11-9 and 12-10 triumphs. An 11-7 loss in the fourth forced a fifth game, which Corona won by an 11-8 margin.

José López was ahead of Marcus Sim Wei Jie – 8-11, 11-6, 11-9 – after three games, but Wei Jie won out (11-5, 11-9) to take the No. 5 match.

The Dragons drop to the seventh-place match, where they will play No. 7 Virginia on Sunday at 8:30 a.m.
