Women’s Basketball Clinches Share of Regular-Season CAA Title on Saturday’s Senior Day

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel University women's basketball team (23-7, 16-2 CAA) defeated the College of Charleston Cougars (13-16, 6-12 CAA) in Philadelphia, Pa. from the Daskalakis Athletic Center in the Dragons' regular-season finale by a final of 72-60. With the win, the Dragons clinched the No. 1 seed in the CAA Championship and a share of the regular-season conference title.
HIGHLIGHTS
* It marks the Dragons' third regular-season CAA title. DU previously earned a share of the regular-season championship in 2017-18 and the outright title in 2008-09.
* Drexel's 23 regular-season wins are the second most in school history.
* Before the game, the Dragons recognized its senior class: Aubree Brown, Ana Ferariu, Bailey Greenberg, Niki Metzel and team managers Carter Caplan and Winson Tam.
* Sophomore Keishana Washington tied for a game-high 18 points behind 7-of-11 shooting.
* Senior Bailey Greenberg totaled 17 points with three rebounds and two assists.
* Junior Hannah Nihill tallied 10 points, a game-high eight assists, a team-high five rebounds and a game-high four steals in an all-around effort.
* Mariah Leonard was an efficient 4-of-6 from the field and 2-of-2 at the line for 10 points.
* Senior Aubree Brown finished with five points, four assists and three steals.
* Junior Kayla Bacon knocked down a trey in the win and added three free throws for six points.

Things started evenly at the DAC with both squads going 4-of-8 early with 4:59 to play, 9-9. Nihill's presence was felt on both ends of the floor with four assists, three rebounds and two steals in the opening period. Greenberg scored nine points while five Dragons had a basket as DU led, 19-13, after 10 minutes.

Leonard and Washington began the second with baskets as the Dragons lead reached 10 to force a Cougar timeout with 8:07 remaining, 23-13. Charleston connected on four three-pointers in the quarter while a late 7-0 run helped CoC tie it up at 31-31 with about a minute until halftime. Charleston took a 33-32 lead with under a minute until Brown knocked down a baseline jumper in the final seconds to give the Dragons the advantage after two quarters, 34-33.

Charleston extended its lead to four, 40-36, before a 7-0 run by the Dragons gave Drexel the lead back, 43-40. Following a Charleston trey, DU went on another 7-0 stretch to go up by seven, 50-43. Washington ended the first run and started the second run with a pair of three-pointers. The Cougars finished off the quarter on a 7-2 stretch as Drexel took a 52-50 margin into the fourth.

Charleston regained the lead at the 7:42 mark in part of a 4-0 run, 56-55. Nihill's layup put Drexel right back in control on the next possession and the Dragons never lost the lead from there. Charleston last field goal came with 5:57 on the clock and the Cougars scored just two points for the remainder of the game. Just past the midway point of the fourth, Nihill drove down the lane and dished it to Leonard, who barely beat the shot clock, 63-58. Greenberg, Bacon and Washington went 6-of-6 at the line in the final 90 seconds to put the game out of reach, 72-60.
