PHILADELPHIA – Anna Hughes fell in five games in a hotly-contested match with top-seeded Eleonore Evans in the Holleran South finals on Sunday to conclude the College Squash Association Individual Championships.
Hughes started off on the right foot with an 11-4 win in the first game, but Evans answered with a pair of 11-9 victories. The Drexel senior kept the match alive with an 11-8 win in the fourth game.
The fifth game carried not only the weight of deciding the match but also determining who would receive second team all-American honors. Both players gave their all in the single-most important game of the season. Evans edged out Hughes in that decisive game, 11-9.
Hughes finishes her Dragon career with 40-career wins and is one of six women's players in program history with that many victories.
