PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel men's basketball program welcomes six newcomers to the 2020-21 roster. The incoming class of Dragons features three freshmen (Xavier Bell, Lamar Oden, Jr. and Amari Williams) as well as a trio of transfers (Luke House, Anto Keshgegian and Chuka Mekkam).
In this six-part Q&A series, fans will get some background on each student-athlete. Friday gives us a look at graduate transfer Anto Keshgegian.
Keshgegian walked on to the basketball team at Temple as a junior and spent two seasons with the Owls. Prior to Temple, the Malvern, Pa. native attended Eastern University. Keshgegian played high school ball at St. Joseph's Prep.
Q: What about Drexel most caught your eye?
A: The city campus is what caught my eye. I love the location of the school and the area it's in. I'm excited to enjoy the city life for one more year.
Q: When did you start playing basketball, and what is your proudest basketball moment?
A: I started playing in the first grade, and my proudest moment was making it on to the Temple Basketball roster.
Q: Who is your favorite NBA player, and what do you like about his game?
A: TJ McConnell is my favorite NBA player. I admire his work ethic and ability to lead. He plays with a lot of toughness and grit, and I try and model my game after him.
Q: What is the No. 1 thing you worked on to prepare for the jump to NCAA DI basketball?
A: The number one thing I worked one was my conditioning. I knew if I got in great shape and could keep up with the transition then my game would take care of the rest.
Q: What do you like to do away from basketball?
A: Away from basketball I enjoy spending time with my family and friends.
Q: Who is your greatest influence on or off the court and why?
A: My greatest influence off the court is my dad. He is the hardest worker I know, and I wouldn't be anywhere if it weren't for him.
Q: What is something most people don't know about you?
A: Most people don't know that I used to shoot left-handed up until my junior year of high school.
Q: What degree are you pursuing, and do you have any career plans in mind?
A: I'm getting my masters in business, but when I graduate I want to play professionally overseas for a year or two. Then I want to coach/work with NBA teams and get into real estate.
