CHARLESTON, S.C. – Annalena O'Reilly scored the only goal of the match less than five minutes in as the Drexel women's soccer team earned its first Colonial Athletic Association win of the season with a 1-0 victory at the College of Charleston on Sunday afternoon.
O'Reilly sent her second goal of the season into the back of the net just 4:40 into the contest, striking the ball into the top right corner off a feed from Delaney Lappin. It was Lappin's first assist of the year and she now leads the Dragons with seven points.
The teams traded chances throughout the remainder of the first half with the Cougars holding a 6-5 advantage in shots, but Miyuki Schoyen was up to the task, making a pair of saves. As the second half moved on, the Drexel defense withstood the Cougars attack, which pushed hard in the waning moments, including a free kick that Schoyen came off her line to pick out of mid-air with 11 minutes remaining and a service from the left side of the box that was headed away with one minute left.
Overall, Schoyen made four saves in the match.
Drexel returns to action with a second consecutive road contest on Sunday, October 10, traveling to William & Mary. Opening tap from Williamsburg, Virginia is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
