
Men's Squash Opens Season With 9-0 Win Against No. 24 Chatham

PHILADELPHIA – The No. 5 Drexel University men's squash team got its season off to a strong start on Friday evening, downing the No. 24 Chatham Cougars 9-0.
In the first portion of matches, at number eight Gautam Nagpal earned the opening victory of the evening for the Dragons, defeating Alaaeldin Abdelkhalik 11-5, 11-4, 11-9. Also with an early victory was Filip Krueger at sixth singles who came away with an 11-2, 11-4, 11-8 score.
Some tougher matches came at number two and four. In the second singles match, Haris Qasim rebounded from a tough first set to beat Luis Gonzalez 11-9, 11-2, 11-5. In fourth singles, Fritiof Jacobsson battled from behind in the first game to win 11-8. He followed with second and third game victories at 11-8 and 11-5.
After the court changeover, Drexel won the overall match at ninth singles as Shaan Dalal topped Vinicius Muniz 11-4, 11-6, 11-3. Completing the score, at first singles Matias Knudsen downed Abdul Malik 11-2, 11-3, 11-6. Noel Heaton won at fifth, claiming a 11-5, 11-3, 8-11, 11-3 victory. In the seventh slot, Jose Lopez survived a tough first game challenge from Mohamed Sadek, winning 13-11, 11-3, 11-4. Third singles saw Dylan Kachur take a 11-6, 11-3, 11-7 win against Augustin Carranza.
Drexel returns to action with a pair of matches tomorrow. The Dragons start the day hosting No. 15 Franklin & Marshall at 10 a.m. at the Kline & Specter Squash Center. DU then travels across University City to battle No 1 Penn at 4 p.m.
