Dragons Finish Fourth at Patriot Invitational, Karnik Sets Meet Record in 200 Breast

FAIRFAX Va. - The Drexel men's swimming and diving team concluded its time at the 2021 Patriot Invitational Saturday by finishing in fourth place. Kacper Karnik set a meet record in the 200 breast and won a gold medal on the meet's final day of competition.
Xabier Carneiro posted a 15:59.59 in the preliminaries of the 1650 free to earn a spot in Saturday night's A final. The junior also secured himself a spot in the A final of the 200 back after a 1:52.94 finish in the preliminaries. John Scully made it to the A final of the 100 free after he clocked in at 45.83 in the preliminaries Saturday morning.
Karnik had originally set a meet record on Saturday morning after swimming the 200 breast in 1:59.30. The sophomore then broke the record again in the evening's finals, posting a 1:58.81. That time secured a gold medal in the event for the Dragons as Karnik finished three seconds ahead of second place. The Dragons followed it up with two medals in the 200 fly. Paris Raptis and Alessio Gianni posted times of 1:46.74 and 1:47.19, respectively, to earn the silver and bronze.
The Dragons return to the Daskalakis Athletic Center on Dec. 4 to host Lehigh in their first home meet since Feb. 14, 2019. The event is scheduled for 10:30 a.m.
