Dragons Fall at Abilene Christian, 73-56

ABILENE, Texas – Abilene Christian held Drexel to just 33 percent shooting, its lowest total of the season, and defeated the Dragons, 73-56, on Saturday. The Wildcats picked up their sixth straight win to improve to 6-2. Drexel fell to 4-5 with the loss.
The Wildcats remained unbeaten in the Teague Center. They have now won 18 straight games in the building they call home while they wait for renovations on Moody Coliseum to be finished.
Lamar Oden, Jr., led Drexel with 12 points off the bench. Tre Brown scored 11 points, the most he has had since arriving on campus, while Mate Okros added 10 points. The Dragons' offense struggled to score most of the night. The defense forced 14 turnovers, including 10 in the second half, but the offense could not capitalize. The Dragons shot below 40 percent for the first time this season and shot a season-low 17 percent (5-for-32) from long range. Drexel turned the ball over 15 times, which was the least amount of turnovers against the Wildcats this year. ACU leads the nation in turnover margin and forced at least 20 turnovers in every game before tonight.
ACU led by 13 at halftime and extended its lead early in the second half with a six-point possession. Coryon Mason drained a 3-pointer as James Butler was called for a foul. The Wildcats got the ball out of bounds, and Mason hit another trey, putting ACU ahead 43-24 and forcing Drexel to call a timeout at the 17:51 mark. Drexel wouldn't be able to cut the lead to single digits the rest of the way.
The Dragons found themselves in a deficit early as the ball wouldn't fall for the visitors. Drexel trailed 13-9 early but went cold from the floor. The Wildcats scored nine straight points and held Drexel without a point for a span of 6:45. The Dragons made one of their first 14 3-point attempts and finished the half 2-for-17 from long range. Overall, the Dragons shot just 7 percent from the floor. ACU started strong, making seven of their first 10 shots, but the Drexel defense tightened up. The Wildcats' Mahki Morris hit a jumper at the buzzer to make it a 35-22 game at intermission. It was Drexel's lowest-scoring half of the season.
Mason led ACU with 21 points. He was 4-for-5 from deep. The Wildcats shot 40 percent from long range. Morris added 11 points.
