About Drexel
Drexel enters play 6-2 overall and is coming off a 57-33 win at Maine on Saturday. Keishana Washington scored a season-high 25 points for the Dragons.
Washington was named the Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week for the week ending on December 5. She led Drexel to a 2-0 week averaging 21.5 points per game, shooting 62.1% (18-29) from the floor and 71.4% (5-7) from three. Washington began the week scoring a game-high 18 points on 7-of-11 (63.6%) shooting and knocked down four of her six attempts from behind the arc in a 67-44 win over Dartmouth. She followed the performance with a her 25 points at Maine, shooting 61.1% (11-18) from the field.
While the Dragons have a defensive minded mentality to begin with, the last three games have displayed Drexel at its best in holding the opposing offense down. The trio of Fresno State, Dartmouth and Maine averaged 41.0 points per game, combined to shoot 26.8 percent from the field overall and 10-for-58 (17.2 percent) beyond the arc. The 33 points allowed against Maine were the lowest since a 57-32 win at Hofstra on Feb. 7, 2020.
Both Hannah Nihill and Washington continue to chase down some impressive career marks. Each have 123 three-pointers in their respective careers as the duo closes in on Fiona Flanagan (124) for 10th on the Dragons' all-time list. Washington enters Saturday with 966 points and is bidding to become the 27th member of the 1,000th point club. Nihill enters Saturday's game with 394 career assists. With six more, she will become just the fifth current player across all NCAA divisions with 1,000 points, 400 assists, and 250 steals.
Scouting Longwood
Longwood enters play 3-5 overall and is coming off a 94-56 loss at No. 13 Iowa State on Sunday. After an early three-game winning streak, the Lancers have dropped three consecutive contests. Longwood was picked third in the preseason Big South poll and placed Kyla McMakin and Akila Smith on the preseason All-Conference First Team.
The duo leads the Lancers in scoring with McMakin dropping 18.9 a game and Smith netting 15.9 per contest, ranking second and third in the Big South, respectively. Smith leads the team in rebounding with 7.0 an outing. Tra'Dayja Smith has dished 50 assists on the year.
Longwood has not been afraid to challenge itself, taking on a pair of top-15 opponents. The Lancers faced No. 4 Maryland to open the season and then most recently took on No. 13 Iowa State on Sunday.
Rebecca Tillett is in her fourth season as the head coach at Longwood with a career record of 32-61. The overall mark is somewhat misleading as her first team went 3-27 before seasons with 12 and 14 wins following.
