Wrestling Defeats LIU in First Match of Saturday Tripleheader, 35-9

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. –The Drexel University wrestling team (1-0) picked up its first team victory of the season with a road win over the LIU Sharks (1-4) by a win of 35-9 on Saturday, Feb. 6 in New York from the Pratt Recreation Center.
The Dragons won eight of 10 matches in the matinee in Brookville.
Starting at 184 pounds, Josh Stillings' tech fall victory, 16-0, and Bryan McLaughlin's first-period win by fall at 197 pounds helped put Drexel up 11-0 in the match.
The Sharks took the 285- and 125-pound bouts as the Dragons' lead slimmed, 11-9.
But DU was perfect over the final six matches to pick up the decisive 35-9 win.
Chandler Olson (133) and Julian Flores (141) turned in 4-0 and 8-2 decision wins.
Luke Nichter (149) and Parker Kropman (157) garnered big points to push Drexel's lead to 26-9. Nichter defeated LIU's Anthony Dushaj with a technical fall victory, 17-1, while Kropman won the next match 18-8 by a major decision over LIU's Rhise Royster.
At 165 pounds, Evan Barczak picked up a 3-1 decision before Michael O'Malley needed 5:45 to pin LIU's James Langan in the final match at 174 pounds.

With one match down, the Dragons continue their Saturday tripleheader in Hempstead, N.Y. against Bloomsburg at 4 p.m. and Hofstra at 6 p.m.
