NEWARK, Del. – The Drexel men's soccer team scored a pair of second-half goals to push its match against Delaware into overtime on Sunday night. The game ended in a draw after both teams could not score after 20 minutes of overtime.
Drexel was trailing by two goals heading towards the end of the second half. Laolu Daranijo scored the Dragon's first goal of the night in the 78th minute. The goal was the forward's fourth goal of the spring campaign.
The Dragons' second and equalizing goal came in the 86th minute. Cesar Banacloy Harcourt received a through pass from Joey Martini and powered it past the Delaware keeper for his first goal of the season and his collegiate career.
Drexel commanded the field throughout the second half and into overtime but could not push ahead of the Blue Hens.
After Delaware scored two goals in the first half, Drexel played lockdown defense to keep Delaware from getting another good look at the net. Delaware took eight shots in the first half but was held to just three in the second half and three shots in overtime. Half of the Blue Hen's tries were on goal, and of those seven, Drexel keeper Stephen Kopsachilis saved five.
The Dragons drew 21 fouls against Delaware and only committed 10. Delaware committed eight fouls in the first half and nine fouls in the second half.
The Dragons are scheduled to return home on Wednesday to host the La Salle Explorers in an afternoon contest at 2 p.m. from Vidas Field.
