PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel men's soccer team defeated the La Salle Explorers (4-2-1) on Wednesday, 1-0. An early goal by Laolu Daranijo proved to be all that Drexel needed to get the shutout win in the rain.
In the 12th minute of play, La Salle failed to clear a ball away, and senior Adam Nork played the ball back into the 18-yard box where Daranijo beat his defender and had a clear shot at goal. It was Daranijo's fifth goal of the season.
La Salle was unable to mount an offensive strategy against the Drexel defense. The Dragons held La Salle to 13 shots and did not allow the Explorers to take one corner kick.
Stephen Kopsachilis got the call to start in the net for the Dragons. The keeper saved seven shots, which is a season-high for the junior.
The Dragons are scheduled to travel to NJIT to face the Highlanders in an afternoon contest on Saturday, March 27. Kickoff is slated for 2 p.m.
