Men's Soccer Defeats NJIT With Late-Game Goal, 4-3

NEWARK, N.J. – The Drexel men's soccer team (4-3-1) scored in the 84th minute to defeat the NJIT Highlanders (2-4-1) by a score of 4-3 on Saturday afternoon. Laolu Daranijo scored two goals in the effort, including the game-winning goal.
NJIT was responsible for the first goal of the game. In the 25th minute, Regsan Watkins scored from outside of the 18.
In the 30th minute, Daranijo scored his first goal of the game and sixth of the season. Chris Donovan started the play and was credited with an assist.
The Dragons did not wait long before scoring again. In the 39th minute, Kyle Tucker served a corner kick into the box. Donovan received the corner and flicked the ball into the back of the net to score his fourth goal of the season.
After halftime, in the 64th minute, Rene White was rewarded with a penalty kick, which he converted to tie the match at two apiece.
Yassine Elkahloun gave the Dragons the lead back in the 71st minute. It was Elkahloun's first goal of the season.
With the game winding down and Drexel in the lead, NJIT struck once more in the 82nd minute to tie the game up again. Seven minutes later, the Dragons drew a foul inside the NJIT 18 and had a chance to pull ahead once and for all. Daranijo beat the Highlander goalkeeper and put Drexel in a position to win its fourth game of the year.
The Dragons held NJIT to 10 shots on goal. Seven of those shots were saved by Dragons keeper Stephen Kopsachilis.
Drexel returns home to Vidas Field to play in its final two games of the 2021 spring season. The Dragons will host Northeastern on April 2 at 1 p.m. and then host Delaware on April 10 at 5 p.m.
