PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel women's tennis team (2-0) defeated the La Salle Explorers (0-5), 7-0 on Thursday afternoon. Freshmen Isabel Cabrerizo and Aida Garcia Mendez recorded their first collegiate victories to help the Dragons sweep the Explorers.

The Dragons got started early by sweeping the doubles point. Cristina Corte González and Cabrerizo teamed up in the No. 1 spot and defeated their opponents, 6-2, to clinch the doubles point.

In the second-seeded doubles match, Marta Martinez and Pauline Kharkover defeated their opponents, 6-4.

In singles play, the Dragons automatically won the No. 5 and No. 6 matches to take a 3-0 lead. Cabrerizo won the second-seeded flight to clinch the match for the Dragons. She beat her opponent in two sets (6-1, 4-1).

Garcia Mendez shut her opponent down in the No. 4 spot by taking both sets, 6-0, 6-0. The third-seeded match featuring Tara Veluvolu ended in a 6-1, 6-1 decision in favor of the junior. González took care of business in the top-seeded match to complete the sweep.

Women's tennis returns to action on Sunday, March 28, to take on the Temple Owls. The first serve is slated for noon on the Vidas Courts.
