PHILADELPHIA - The Drexel women's soccer team battled to a 1-1 draw with No. 25 Hofstra in a key Colonial Athletic Association match on Thursday at Vidas Field. Lauren Currey had the only goal for the Dragons, who are now 1-0-1 in CAA play. The Pride is now 6-0-1 as they suffered their first tie of the season.
The teams were tied for the first 68 minutes of the contest before the Dragons got on the board with a penalty kick. Currey fired a shot past Skylar Kuzmich to make it 1-0 Drexel. The Dragons were awarded the penalty kick after Maggie Daeche lofted a ball deep into the box. With the ball near the end line, Delaney Lappin tried to get by the Hofstra defender but was tripped, giving Drexel a chance to break the tie, which it did.
It stayed 1-0 until the final minutes. Hofstra's Anja Suttner forced extra time when she one timed a shot from Lucy Porter into the goal to even it up at 1-1. The Pride outshot Drexel, 30-5, and had 16 corner kicks, but were able to just score one goal as the Dragons picked up a needed point in the CAA standings.
Miyuki Schoyen made six saves for the Dragons in goal. It was senior day as Drexel honored Raenah Campbell, Abby Corrato, Maggie Daeche, Gwyn Godin, Hannah Klevins, Melissa Lyon, Shannon Riordan and Shea Tomlinson.
