VILLANOVA, Pa. - Stephen Cerbara and Angelo Giantsopoulos each fired a one-over-par 71 as the Drexel golf team ended day one of the Wildcat Invitational tied for third overall in the 16-team field. The Dragons are tied with the hosts from Villanova and trail only St. John's and Bucknell in the two-day tournament which is taking place at the Radnor Country Club.
Cerbara and Giantsopoulos had a bogey and double-bogey, respectively on the third hole but each player played very well after that. Giantsopoulos played the final 15 holes in one-under par, while Cerbara played par golf after the third hole. Senior Alex Butler finished the back nine in one-under par and finished the day with a 73. Jeffrey Cunningham was one shot behind Butler, while Liam Hart checked in with a 75. Hart led the team with three birdies, which came on his first three holes of the day. The weather wasn't ideal for the tournament. Temperatures were in the 40s for the entire day. Tomorrow's weather looks to be a little better when the teams play the final 18 holes.
The Red Storm were the only team that finished under par at 277 (-3). Bucknell was five shots back, while Drexel and Villanova are each 12 strokes back at +9 entering play on Tuesday. Delaware, Rider and Lafayette will begin the day two shots behind the Dragons.
